E. M. Corsa is passionate about art and nature, the combination giving birth to vivid watercolors portraying wild and domestic animals. She paints what she knows best, and the appeal of her work stems from a keen eye for accuracy and detail with a balanced composition. Collage elements from bits of antique maps, vintage tickets, gold threads, etc. add texture and another dimension pulling the viewer closer to the subject.

From a young age, Corsa, a native of Massachusetts, has been enthralled with animals and the natural world stemming from her parents’ respect and love of nature. This, along with her mother’s encouragement in artistic endeavors, led to Corsa’s self-expression through drawing and painting, developing a style uniquely her own. A self-taught artist, Corsa’s keen observational skills and knowledge of the natural world have been the catalyst in making the leap from drawing for her own pleasure to sharing her skills and making a living with her art.

Keeping a sketch journal where daily happenings are recorded is an important part of the creative process for Corsa. Many of these sketches are done on location, helping her to understand her subject in a natural environment. Some even appear in her finished work. These diaries are not only an invaluable aid in the artist’s work but a treasured recording of her family’s experiences throughout the years. A new painting is sometimes sparked by a shared moment with her two sons or her friends, and many of Corsa’s paintings have hidden references to personal memories and events in her life.

Corsa paints first for her own pleasure, but hopes to make people aware of the magic we all take for granted right outside our door. “Nothing pleases me more than to see someone smile when they look at my work,” says the artist. “It’s my way of inviting the viewer into my world to appreciate what nature offers us every day.” Favorite subjects include insects, birds and other small creatures that cross her path and make their home at The Crooked Little House on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Corsa has been the recipient of numerous awards and her work can be found in corporate and private collections here and overseas. Her delightful images also make appearances on Vineyards on the Scuppernong wine labels. Corsa has created images for the Town of Duck, NC, and these can be seen on posters, gift items and banners throughout the town. Her color reproductions and cards can be found in galleries and shops along the Outer Banks and in the Tidewater area of Virginia.
